RE: Carbon Monoxide detectors

I put my CO detector in my garage, closed the doors and fired up a car. Detector never went off. Bought a new one, same experiment, same results, never alarmed. I used an unlit butane lighter to check the gas detectot, no alarm. The point of all this, I dunno.

Never a problem with the braided extenders and a visual check once in a while.

RE: Ford 16" wheels

Happy with my 16 inch wheels. Tires are cheap and readily available. Two Cooper SRMs for $250 installed. Never had one single problem with them.

I open mine all the time at home on a pretty steep driveway. Matter of fact I had it open today to vacuum. Never a problem.

RE: air escaping from tires?????

Air is over 78% nitrogen. With this reasoning, nearly pure nitrogen could be produced in a tire with normal oxygen leakage?

RE: Electric slide shearing roll pins

You can replace the roll pins with bolts. They really aren't "shear pins" . Simply a cheap and fast way to hook the pinion gear to the shaft. Your motor shuts off OK doesn't it? The motor shut off torque is adjustable with a potentiometer adjustment. My unit doesn't have rubber stops. They are adjustable bolt stops.

RE: Dometic SeaLand Stinks

Do you have the two vent holes inside the bowl? I called Sealand about the same problem and they sent me two plugs to plug the vents. Fixed it.

RE: Just installed my "safety chains" -- just to make sure!

The idea of crossed chains goes back to when the safety chains were hooked to the towing vehicle spring shackles. This made for pretty long chains. Crossing the chains shortened the chain geometry and in a hitch failure prevented large side to side excursions of the towed vehicle. On my tow bar set up, the chain connect points are so close, crossing them would make little difference.

RE: Checking tire pressure with jacks down...

Has to do with the area of the inner tire and rim surfaces. Large area compared to the weight the tire is supporting. Suppose the inner tire and rim surfaces are 5000 sq inches and the tire is aired up to 80 lbs. Total force exerted is 400,000 lbs. The weight of the motorhome is therefore minuscule. Now put a little 8'' trailer tire on the motor home. Pop goes the weasel.

RE: shock when touched door

When I first plug in to shore power, I always swipe my hand across the door handle before grasping it. We had a local teenage girl electrocuted when she touched the door handle of her Grampas trailer which was plugged into a household outlet.

RE: A/C dripping water into coach

I have had two Dometic A/Cs and both developed leaks from cracked plastic drain pans. Matter of fact I have one I am working on right now. Replacing these drain pans appear to be not practical.

RE: 1998 Bounder f 53 460 engine 4r100 transmission

change your fluid and cooler before doing anything else and see if this don't solve the problem. most transmisson shops will do the fluid change w/no problem but the cooler is another story, but it is important this gets done also, all the goo that doesn't come out the plug will be trapped in the cooler, clogging it, and then it's back to square one....
I removed my stock cooler and flushed it out with a water hose. Amazing how much gray thick gunk came out.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

How abrupt is the failure? One should differentiate the symptoms between a fuel failure and an electrical failure. Fuel failure typically spits and sputters before is dies. Electrical is usually rather abrupt. When the electrical quits, it cut in and out or just cuts out completely, no spit or rough running. Also when the fuel quits, and one attempts to start it again, it will likely misfire, or almost start. One other trick you can pull. Buy a can of starting fluid. When it dies, squirt some starting fluid down the intake. If it starts, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't, you have an electrical problem. Its just that simple.
Great advice. Works every time.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

Try running it with the gas cap off. You may simply have a tank venting problem.
The fuel tank is not vented and there is only one fuel filter, located along the left frame side rail.
all fuel tanks are vented except bladder tanks
Over 60 degrees temp diff, fuel expands nearly 6%
Not vented thru the cap! It is a closed system to prevent the escape of gas vapors. The vapors are collected in a charcoal canister to be ingested into the engine for burn off.
